European Citizens Awareness

To achieve its expected impacts and create awareness about upcycling, the upPE-T project dedicated a task on European citizens' awareness development. It involves marketing, communication, and putting in motion the citizens awareness plan developed by the Municipality of Nea Smyrni (MoNS) with inputs from the rest of the partners. Such an awareness plan focuses on increasing knowledge of products and materials upcycling and to improve consumers behaviour and attitude towards drink and food packaging recycling and purchasing. The implementation phase of the activity covers two tasks:

  • European citizens’ awareness Platform and Virtual Reality (VR) based mobile app will be developed by Digiotouch (DIGI), in collaboration with Tecnoalimenti (TCA), for creating wide awareness among European citizens about plastics upcycling and its benefits.
  • A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for European citizens, in different languages, and specially focused on children and youngsters will be developed by Unione Nazionale Consumatori (UNC) and Institute for Development and Innovation (IDI) for content preparation.

In collaboration with the upPE-T advisory board, the consortium will organise awareness events such as workshops at educational institutions and visits to plastic waste recycling plants.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 953214.
